Report a Safety or Access Issue

BFF’s Full Safety & Access Policies & Resources

Registration

  • Anyone dancing at BFF for the first time will be asked to sign Art in Motion’s liability waiver. This is a requirement for coming to BFF.
  • Anyone returning to BFF will be asked to sign in. This will help us keep track of how many people are attending. It will also help if contract tracing is required.

Accessibility

  • There are one and a half flights of stairs to the dance floor at Art in Motion. There is no lift or elevator in the building. We regret this aspect of inaccessibility.

Reporting an Issue

  • We want to make sure that BFF is as safe and accessible as possible. To this end, we will have two Safety Buddies at every dance. We will introduce them every night and they will both be wearing glow in the dark arm-bands. Please approach them when they are not dancing for non-urgent issues. You should feel free to interrupt a dance if there is an urgent issue.
  • If you do not want to talk to someone directly or want to leave an anonymous report, please use our Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSepcPNlZIAzb_y0uAE_spUOb50xqQ_40LgOEL-UxlpqoyO7DA/viewform?usp=sharing

Medical Issues

  • For non-urgent medical issues, please ask any of the organizers or the Safety Buddies for assistance and access to the first aid kit.
  • For urgent medical issues, please immediately call 911 and then get in touch with a Safety Buddy or organizer.
  • If you have a medical device you may need assistance with at a dance, like an Epipen, please let a Safety Buddy know when you arrive.

Dealing With Violence and Disrespect in Our Community

  • People who have dangerous or disrespectful behaviors make the space less accessible to everyone.
  • The organizers will do their best to resolve miscommunications and conflicts between individuals before resorting to asking someone to leave or banning.
  • People making others uncomfortable will be asked to have a conversation with the Safety Buddies and other organizers. If the behavior continues or escalates during the same event, they will be asked to leave that event.
  • If someone is violent, breaks the policies repeatedly, or consistently shows they are not committed to changing their disruptive behavior, they will be banned at the committee’s discretion.
  • The committee can ban anyone at any time at their discretion. People who are banned and would like to attend BFF can reach out to the general committee for an appeals process.

Pictures and Videos

  • If you do not want to be in BFF’s pictures or videos, please alert an organizer when you arrive at the dance.
  • Please do not take or post pictures or videos of other dancers without permission.

Allergies

  • Please inform organizers of any airborne food allergies that will make it difficult for you to participate in BFF. We are providing pre-packed snacks and can do our best to select items that do not contain your allergen.

Social First Aid Kit

  • We want to make sure you are comfortable to dance for as long as you’d like. If you need something to make this possible, we hope you’ll ask an organizer for our Social First Aid Kit.
  • The kit includes: Neutral deodorant, baby wipes, safety pins, mouthwash.
  • If there is anything you think we should add to the kit, please let an organizer know or make a report in the Reporting Form.
